Ryan Giggs hevder Wayne Rooney har like stor innflytelse på United nå som det Eric Cantona hadde på 90-tallet, og at Roooney scorer de viktige måtene på samme måte som Eric gjorde det da United tok mange 1-0-seiere – og hentet hjem den første ligatittelen på 26 år.

“There were a few seasons where Eric seemed to score all our key goals in 1-0 wins and they were always important goals. Wayne is now at that stage. He is our talisman and is doing exactly what Eric did in terms of scoring those important goals.”

“There are players throughout United history – such as Eric and Bryan Robson – who have had a massive influence and, although he still has to do it over a long period of time, I don’t think mentioning Wayne in the same manner is out of place.”

Ryan Giggs selv er tilbake fra skade og kan gjøre et overraskende tidlig comeback – sannsynligvis starter han på benken mot Liverpool til helgen.

Giggs har også stor tro på at United tar nummer 19 – og går forbi Liverpools rekord. På spørsmål om å gå forbi Liverpools rekorden vil være deilig, mente en reflektert Giggs at fire på rad er viktigere.

“I don’t think so because if we do win we have four in a row, which has never been done, and that in itself is historic so I’m more focused on four in a row, not beating Liverpool’s mark.”

“When you look around the dressing room you see the quality we have. We have got the quality to win the league.”

I tillegg spekulerer Giggs i at Champions League-exiten til Chelsea kan ha en negativ effekt på formen deres resten av sesongen.

“When we went out in the last 16 four years ago it knocked the stuffing out of us. That could happen to Chelsea. But we now have two Champions League games sandwiching our game with them next month. They won’t be playing in Europe so it can work both ways.”
