Nemanja Vidic har forlenget kontrakten  med 2 år, til 2014. Avtalen gjør han trolig til en av de best betalte spillerne på Old Trafford.

“I am very happy to sign this contract. I came to this club when I was young and have developed enormously with the help of the manager, coaching staff and my team-mates.

“During my time here we have had a lot of success and I look forward to continuing that success in the coming seasons.”

Det har vært mye spekulasjoner rundt Nemanja og en overgang til Real Madrid eller Barcelona den siste tiden, noe som har blitt vanlig når man skal forhandle frem nye avtaler. Ryktene har gått på at Vidics kone, Ana, mistrives i Manchester og ønsker seg til sydligere strøk. Nemanja selv har gang på gang avkreftet ryktene og insistert på at han er fornøyd i klubben.

David Gill kunne allerede 23. juli bekreftet enighet om en ny langtidskontrakt.

“We sat down with Nemanja and his advisor at the end of last season and started discussions. They broke up when Nemanja went away to the World Cup, but resumed when Serbia were knocked out and I’m very pleased to confirm that we agreed terms with Nemanja three or four weeks ago on a new long-term deal with the club.

SAF var naturlig nok svært fornøyd med at man var kommet til enighet om en ny avtale.

“We’re delighted, He’s a fantastic centre-half – a great competitor with a marvellous attitude to winning games and it [this deal] really strengthens our hand.

Selv om det har vært klart en stund er det godt å få det ned på papiret, og også Nemanja selv var naturlig nok svært fornøyd. Samtidig understreket han at han aldri hadde ønsker om å forlate klubben.

“I don’t know why people think it was a difficult decision,”

“I never spoke about my future. I know there was all this speculation but I never said I wanted to go. There was nothing new. I am very happy to be here.”
