«I don’t think the pitch had anything to do with it, we were just the better team.

Man kan vel si at det nå er offisielt: It’s squeaky bum time.

Arsenal har vært avskrevet flere ganger denne sesongen. Sist når de tapte mot både United og Chelsea. Etter at city slo Chelsea og Everton slo United, samt uavgjortkampen mot Villa og citys tap mot Everton – så er Arsene Wengers menn rett tilbake i utfordringsposisjon; to poeng bak United og tre poeng bak Chelsea.

«Arsenal are bang in the frame now. They have the easiest programme on paper and it will be an interesting run-in. Chelsea losing (to Manchester City) was a good result for us, but there are a lot of hard games left. » sa Sir Alex i et intervju med ManUtd.com.

«You have to focus at the turn of the year and make sure you don’t make mistakes. We lost to Everton and we were a bit tired. But we recovered against West Ham and we recovered again (against Aston Villa in the Carling Cup final).»

«We have shown time and time again that this football club has determination. They don’t give in and that is a good quality. You will see that in the remainder of the season. We won’t give in.»

Mind gamesene har allerede begynnt. Chelsea har vist tegn på at den aldrende troppen ikke tåler presset, og det solide fundamentet slår sprekker. United har igjen noen tøffe kamper blant annet mot Chelsea (h), city (b) og Liverpool (h). Å si at United garantert blir å tape poeng i innspurten er vel det som per definisjon kalles realistisk.

Selv om Arsenal på papiret har et enkelt kampprogram igjen, så er myten om at ingen Premier League-kamper er enkle mer korrekt enn nå. Lag kjemper for å unngå nedrykk, kjemper om 4. plassen, kjemper om ligagull og kjemper om en kvallikplass til Europa.

Det er mye igjen og spille for, og Arsenal bør avgi poeng. Kampen mot Chelsea blir uansett en nøkkelkamp.

Da Eduardo pådro seg sin stygge skade, knakk også Arsenals title challenge sammen. Vil det samme skje etter Aaron Ramseys skade? Arsenal imponerte ingen mot Stoke.

Begrepet «squeaky bum time» er et uttryk Sir Alex Ferguson fant på i 2003 når han la press på Wenger. Uttryket spiller på lydene stolene lager når man sitter urolig med ræva på setet og følger favorittlaget sitt. 18. mars 2003 sa Sir Alex følgende:

«They [Arsenal] have a replay against Chelsea and if they win it they would face a semi-final three days before playing us in the league. But then they did say they were going to win the Treble, didn’t they? It’s squeaky bum time and we’ve got the experience now to cope.»

Den gangen vant vi ligaen med fem poeng på Arsenal. Måtte det gjenta seg i år igjen.
